Zac Efron Reflects on 17 Again Co-Star Matthew Perry at Walk of Fame Event

In a poignant ceremony at the Hollywood Walk of Fame, actor Zac Efron paid a touching tribute to his late co-star and friend, Matthew Perry, during the unveiling of his own star.

The two actors shared the screen in the 2009 fantasy comedy “17 Again,” where Perry’s character undergoes a magical transformation into his 17-year-old self, portrayed by Efron. The experience left an indelible mark on Efron, who expressed his gratitude during the ceremony.

“I really also want to mention someone that is not here today, and that’s Matthew Perry, who was so kind and generous with me when we worked on ’17 Again,’” Efron shared emotionally. “Collaborating with him…it was so much fun and it really did propel me and motivate me in so many ways. It really pushed me into the next chapter of my career, for that, thank you so much Matthew.”

Tragically, Perry was found dead in his Los Angeles home on October 28th. A week later, on November 3rd, friends, relatives, and fellow castmates gathered to bid their final farewell in a solemn service.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame event also featured heartfelt speeches from Efron’s colleagues, including Jeremy Allen White and Miles Teller. Teller, who co-starred with Efron in “That Awkward Moment,” praised him as a “triple threat” with immense talent, incredible work ethic, and an above-average face.

“There isn’t a type of film Zac that you haven’t starred in and excelled in,” Teller remarked. “He’s sung and danced and held his own opposite Hugh Jackman, which if you’ve seen ‘Oklahoma!’ or ‘(The) Boy From Oz,’ that is really impressive.”

Teller went on to reveal that Perry, impressed by Efron’s comedic abilities during their collaboration, expressed a desire for Efron to portray him in a biopic. “He’s one of the all-time greats,” Teller acknowledged, highlighting the impact Perry had on Efron’s career.

Jeremy Allen White praised Efron for his unwavering support of his cast and crew. “He champions us, he wants us at our best all the time,” White shared, emphasizing Efron’s commitment to fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.

As the ceremony concluded, Efron’s star now stands as a testament not only to his own achievements but also as a tribute to the enduring influence of Matthew Perry on his life and career.
